Your Guide to Creating a Habakkuk List

I will take my stand and keep watch. I will take my place on the tower. And I will keep watch to see what the Lord will say, and how I should answer when He speaks strong words to me. The Lord gave me this answer:“Write down clearly on tablets what I reveal to you, so that it can be read at a glance. The vision will still happen at the appointed time. It hurries toward its goal. It won’t be a lie. If it’s delayed, wait for it. It will certainly happen. It won’t be late. Habakkuk 2:1-3 NLV, GNT, GWT

The Lord taught me this powerfully through a friend of mine. I was talking to a friend on the phone and the Holy Spirit said, "Before you get off the phone I want you to pray for him. I want you to pray that I give him a new job and it is the job he has always dreamed of". As our conversation drew to an end I said, "Before we go, I want to pray for your new job". In a voice of surprise and disbelief, he replied, “Why would you pray for a new job for me and how did you know I hate my job”? I stated, “The Holy Spirit told me”. He was so in shock it was hard for him to talk. I prayed a simple prayer asking for the job the Lord had for him, to open up. The Holy Spirit instructed me to read Habakkuk 2:1-3 to him and then tell him he was to write down at least five things he desired in his dream job. He agreed and we hung up.

I ran into him about a month later and the Holy Spirit told me to ask him if he had written his list. He had not. "I have it in my head and I won't forget it". I told him "The Holy Spirit wants you to write it down so when it comes about you know it was from God and Him alone". He again agreed and said he would do it when he got home. Once again, about another month later, I ran into him. This time he was with his wife. The Holy Spirit told me to ask him if he had written his Habakkuk list down. I reminded the Holy Spirit what a gentleman He is and that He was not one to uncover someone to another person. He persisted, “Ask him.” I did. Before my friend could reply, his wife asked what we were talking about. He explained it to her and she snapped at him. “You hate your job! Why would you have not done it already?!” She turned to me and vehemently stated, " WE will do it when we get home!”

Two months later we were both at the same party. As I walked in the door, my eye caught his and his head dropped immediately acting as if he didn’t see me. I beelined over to where he was standing, along with his wife and two other women. I greeted him, and the Holy Spirit piped up, "Ask him one more time". I did and his wife again snapped at him in surprise, “You haven’t told her?!” He explained, "I have a job offer. It's everything on my list and then some. I had seven items on my list and felt very selfish in writing all of them down, but God had fulfilled them all and more". I asked him why he had not told me. "I didn't want to “jinx” it. I'm going in tomorrow morning to sign the contract". he replied. The Holy Spirit told me to tell him, “I do not work with jinxes. All he needs to do is tell Me he wants the job. Nothing can thwart my Father’s plans for him.” I asked him, “Do you want the job?” He replied, "Yes!” I told him the Holy Spirit says to say out loud, “I want this job.” He repeated it and we felt a shift in the spirit, like his words had sealed the deal and we knew the job was his and nothing was going to take it from him. The next morning, he signed the contract and started his dream job.

Now, I strongly encourage you to create your own Habakkuk list. It should contain at least 5-line items. You can create more than one list. For example, you can have one list for your dream job, dream home, vacation, career, ministry, health, marriage, family, etc... Be specific, the items can be salary $80,000.00, three weeks of vacation annually, off holidays, insurance benefits, four-day workweek. Date when you write them down and when He brings them about. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you what lists to create. Don’t be shy. Pray for The Father’s will to be revealed. It is written in Jeremiah 29 that He "declares" His plans for you are good, prosperous, full of hope now and forever when we seek Him. As you write it down, He will guide you as to how to add, remove or adjust anything you have listed. Then, as you pray and thank Him for these things, He will gently show you if you have added them because of selfishness or if it is His resource for you. He once told me, “It is easier for me to guide a moving ship than a ship anchored in the harbor”. There is nothing too large or too small. This is about you and The Holy Spirit partnering to walk in your divine purpose in the Kingdom of God.
